In memory of Harold Mitchell AC

A State Memorial Service to honour and celebrate the life of Harold Mitchell AC will be held at 10:30 am on Monday 13 May at Hamer Hall in Melbourne.

A pioneer, a visionary and a philanthropist – Mr Mitchell truly embodied the essence of 'Living Large'.

Mr Mitchell's influence in shaping Australia as a media force began at the age of 16, but his service to the community and generosity lasted a lifetime.

Mr Mitchell will be remembered not only for his fierce leadership and professional success, but for his unwavering care as a generous philanthropist and benefactor of the arts, sports, education and health.

As a generous fan of the arts, Mr Mitchell contributed to the Malthouse Theatre, Opera Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Museums Victoria and the New York Philharmonic.

Mr Mitchell was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2004, a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2010, and was awarded Melbournian of the Year in 2011 and Victorian Australian of the Year in 2013.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Harold Mitchell, the Mitchell family has requested that contributions may be made to Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF).  ACRF fund the cutting-edge technology and equipment that scientists need to find new and improved ways to prevent, detect and treat all types of cancer.
